This course will examine the historical, cultural, geographic, political, economic and strategic factors that influence relations between the two most important great powers of the 21st century: the United States and China. Students will gain an even-handed and balanced understanding of the complex sources of conflict and cooperation in bilateral relations. The class will review cutting edge theoretical and empirical studies by the foremost American and Chinese scholars. Activities will include lecture, discussion, video clips, a simulation and writing assignments.
