The course begins with developing the ability to see the visual world and translate it with visual clarity and intent into two dimensions. The ultimate goal is to make drawings that transcend mere documentation. The fundamental elements of drawing; line, value, shape, volume, negative space, line quality, modeling, and illusionistic space are the visual vocabulary and grammar that are manipulated to make a larger compositional whole. Students will be expected to understand these components and incorporate them into drawings with a base level of success. Ultimately, it is hoped that students discover drawing as a discipline that involves knowledge of certain basic skills that can be used as a means to an end in creating something that has meaning and excitement for the creator.
